The beach is superb and consists of sand which sweeps around the bay changing to shingle along the extended promenade. All the usual facilities are on hand, Punch & Judy, swing boats, trampolines, volleyball court and Weymouth’s famous sand modeller.

As one would expect of a coastal resort, water sports feature prominently in the list of activities. The sailing facilities in particular rank amongst the best in the word. So much so that in 2012 Weymouth and Portland hosted the Sailing Events of The London 2012 Olympic Games! With excellent wind conditions all year round the waters of Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour are a Mecca for windsurfers, kite surfers and recreational dingy sailors. Operating from Weymouth Old Harbour is a fleet of charter boats catering for the needs of divers who come to the area to explore the wrecks lying around the coast. Weymouth is also one of the top angling venues in the country offering all types of fishing, from the child’s rod dangled from the pier to deep sea fishing trips which can be booked from one of the charter boats in the harbour. You’ll find these boats have very experienced crews with lots of local knowledge and will take you to all the best locations for a very productive day.

Over the past few years there has been a huge growth in other activities on offer in the area, fuelled by the beautiful surrounding countryside and majestic World Heritage Jurassic on which Weymouth is located about as centrally as you can get. Golf, cycling, walking, bowling, swimming, rock climbing, the list of opportunity for sport is endless.

Many events take place throughout the year which are well worth planning your visit around. These range from Fayre in the Square and The Wessex Folk Festival  to The Dorset Seafood Festival and Weymouth  Beach MotoX when the beach comes alive to the roar of 100′s of high powered MotoX bikes, an amazing free event definitely not to be missed.

Attractions such as the Weymouth Sea Life Park’s themed marine displays revealing the fascinating habitats found beneath the waves and Sandworld at Lodmoor Country Park are a must to visit as is Weymouth’s historic Nothe Fort situated on the other side of Weymouth Harbour.

With a new shopping centre, lots of excellent places to eat and drink, a wide choice of accommodation and a year-round calendar of events it is little wonder that Weymouth is a town to which people return time and time again.
